We are two people obsessed with self-progression while balancing responsibilities to our families and careers. People wonder why we added managing an aerial and movement studio to our already full plates, especially as neither of us are professional aerialists or instructors. At the heart of the answer is why we named this baby, TAO.
Ta-Oh means person in Tagalog (Christine), and Tao is a friendly way to say I in Vietnamese (Van). We met in Hong Kong, where 道 (dou6 or dau) means pathway or way. We are not associated with the Taoist religion, but the alignment of body and mind resonates deeply with our mission to provide each person with their own pathway as they evolve into a better I.
TAO is a space for us to remember that we are human, with bodies built to move today and with dedication, more efficiently progress tomorrow. TAO is our commitment to fully harness strength, purpose, grit and grace with focused effort and expression: Together Active Onward.
TAO Dance Arts belongs to Studio Chrome Ltd established in 2019. Christine was one of the original partners who established the studio to continue quality choreography and competitive pole training in Hong Kong. Studio Chrome went through a shift in ownership with Van partnering with Christine in the Spring of 2024. Together they decided to bring their love for acrobatics, the aerial arts and pole to a wider community and opened TAO in June 2024.
